We visited Venice in October. It's an ideal time because we enjoyed sunny weather in the afternoons and pleasant temperatures.

How to get around in Venice?

We explored the entire city on foot because we are good walkers, but if walking for kilometers scares you, you can take the vaporetto, which are the boats that serve as public transportation in Venice. You will need to buy tickets at the dedicated machines located at certain docks.

Walking Tour in Venice

If you're a keen walker, it's possible to explore Venice on foot and enjoy its typical narrow streets, numerous bridges, and hidden treasures such as churches, old administrative buildings, or historic individual houses.

If you watch our video above, you'll get a great overview of the walking route we took through the city.

Here's our walking itinerary:

  1. Parking San Marco
  2. Ponte Tre Ponti
  3. Church San Pantalon
  4. Basilica Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari
  5. Palazzo Vendramin Grimani
  6. Ponte Rialto
  7. Bacino Orseolo
  8. Piazza San Marco
  9. Palazzo Ducale
  10. Ponte della Paglia (Vista point on the Ponte dei sospire)
  11. Stroll along the quayside with a great view to the islands La giudecca et San Giorgio Maggiore

How to park in Venice?

Firstly, although it may seem obvious, we prefer to inform you that no cars circulate in Venice due to its layout; narrow streets intersected by canals.

However, at the entrance of Venice, near the train station, there is an open-air parking lot where you can safely leave your car for the day: Parking San Marco in Venice. It may not be the best parking lot in the world, but it was very useful for us.

The cost of the parking is around 40€ per day !

Please note that in this parking lot, you must leave the keys in your car as the staff may need to move it a space or two depending on arrivals and departures. Therefore, avoid leaving expensive items in your car... This detail really bothered us...
