Arrival on the Estate: First Immersion
As soon as we stepped through the entrance of Habitation Clément, we knew we were about to experience a visit that was cultural, historical, and aesthetic all at once. The estate is vast, impeccably maintained, and the palm?lined alley creates an almost cinematic atmosphere. We began by exploring the outdoor areas to soak in the spirit of the place before diving into the different stages of the visit.
The Tropical Gardens: A Walk Between Nature and Art
We continued through the gardens, a true sensory journey. Between the century?old trees, bamboo groves, ponds, and contemporary sculptures, every corner tells its own story. The walk is smooth and filled with perfect viewpoints for capturing bright, graphic photos. It’s a space where nature and artistic creation are in constant dialogue.
The Colonial House: Immersion in Creole History
Visiting the main house transported us to another era. The rooms are recreated with remarkable precision: period furniture, everyday objects, and a preserved atmosphere. We discovered what life was like in a major 19th?century Creole estate, blending elegance, tradition, and traces of its industrial past. It’s one of the most striking moments of the entire tour.
The Cellars and the Distillery: Understanding Martinican Rum
We then headed to the old cellars, where the scent of wood and aged rum creates a unique atmosphere. Even though distillation is no longer active on site, the scenography explains every step of producing agricultural rum. Rows of barrels, explanations about aging, and technical spaces offer a complete overview of this emblematic Martinican expertise.
The Tasting: The Signature Moment of the Visit
The visit ends with a tasting, an essential highlight. We sampled several emblematic Rhum Clément cuvées, each with its own aromatic identity. It’s a warm, convivial moment, perfect for talking with the team and deepening our understanding of the different expressions of agricultural rum.
Contemporary Art Spaces: An Unexpected Creative Dimension
Before leaving the estate, we took time to explore the temporary exhibitions and artistic installations scattered throughout the park. Habitation Clément is also a place of contemporary creation, where art blends naturally into the landscape. This final step adds an extra cultural layer to the entire experience.
