This vibe is Martinique

First impressions from the sky before landing
We took a Paris Orly–Fort-de-France flight with Air Caraïbes. We’re really happy with the experience — it’s a great airline.
The route takes us over Martinique via the Caravelle peninsula, and right away we can feel that the vibe is different.
From the window, we spot the curves of the coastline, the jagged beaches, and the palm trees that already look like they’re waving at us. We realize we haven’t even set foot on the island yet, and it’s already pulling us into its atmosphere.
Anse d’Arlet: colors, palm trees and turtles
Once settled, we head straight to Anse d’Arlet. The colorful façades of the village greet us, each one brighter than the next. A few minutes later, we’re standing in front of the perfect Martinique scene: a line of palm trees, crystal-clear water and… a sea turtle swimming right in front of us as we adjust our masks. We still laugh about the moment one of us thought it was “a big moving. Spoiler: definitely a turtle.
Just offshore, the Star Clipper is anchored in the bay. The tall ship gives the whole place a postcard look, but since we’re living it, it somehow feels normal. We stay there for a while watching the sun drop behind the hills, painting the whole Anse d’Arlet in warm orange tones.
A stop at the Sacré-Cœur de Balata
We continue exploring at the Sacré-Cœur de Balata. The place is peaceful, perched above Fort-de-France, with an impressive view over the tropical forest. We wander around the sanctuary and agree it’s the kind of spot we could return to just to breathe a little.
Practical info
- Anse d’Arlet: perfect for snorkeling, especially early morning if you want to spot turtles.
- Star Clipper: the ship is often anchored in the bay during high season.
- Sacré-Cœur de Balata: easy access by car, parking available.
- Caravelle Peninsula: if the aerial view is stunning, the hike to the lighthouse is a must during your stay.
