Péronne, Picardy
Categorized in North of France
Welcome to Péronne, a charming town nestled in the heart of Picardy, in northern France. Known for its rich historical heritage, Péronne offers an immersion into medieval past and memories of the Great War.
We were familiar with Péronne as one of us is from there. During a family weekend, we decided to stroll through the streets and notable places of the town to list those that we consider unmissable.
Péronne Castle
You're not from Péronne if you don't know the castle! At the heart of the town stands proudly the magnificent Péronne Castle, dating back to the Middle Ages. This imposing castle is a true architectural marvel and exceptional in the region.
The streets of Péronne
As you wander through the streets of Péronne, you'll discover facades in the traditional Picard style, the church reigning in the center, quaint cafes, and artisanal shops.
In the square stands the Péronne Town Hall dating from the 16th and 18th centuries. It houses the municipal library and the Alfred-Danicourt Museum.
The church of Péronne
Don't miss the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church of Péronne, with its superb Gothic architecture. Entry is allowed.
What struck us the most is its façade, which still bears the scars of the two World Wars, including bullet impacts. However, the church is beautifully preserved and restored, and it's a must-see monument in Péronne.
An idyllic and rural setting
Péronne is also surrounded by lush countryside, perfect for outdoor enthusiasts.
We particularly enjoy walking in the Cam Park of Péronne, Péronne's public garden, which is a must-visit place in the city from the first rays of the sun.
The town of Péronne in Picardy is full of history and culture to discover:
- The Historial Museum of the Great War is a must-visit to understand the impact of the First World War on the region.
- Stroll through the Péronne Castle Park to enjoy a peaceful atmosphere and admire the castle's architecture.
- Don't miss the Péronne Ramparts Park, an impressive historical site that offers a beautiful view of the town.
